Throughout the month of June, Aurora continued to amaze us. We could not believe how much she changed from
day to day! Her awareness about herself and her surroundings increased substantially. After learning
how to consistently get her right thumb into her mouth, she began to work on her left thumb. She discovered she has toes!
She can now hold on to
small objects like rattles, and she can grasp her burp cloth and our shirts in her fist. Her grip can be quite strong,
as are her legs. Aurora prefers to practice standing up over tummy time. In her crib, she has begun to move around
at night, most likely by using her legs to propel herself backwards or in a circle. By mid-June,
she learned how to roll from her back onto
her side (first onto her right side, then a week later onto her left side). Occasionally, she will lose her
balance when she is on her left side, and end up on her tummy, which makes her mad. When she is awake, she
is constantly looking around. When we stayed at Wai Pao and Wai Gung's house in Yorktown one weekend, she
definitely knew it was different from home. In fact, Jon had to walk Aurora around the house the first night so
she could get oriented before she was willing to go to bed!
Aurora smiles and laughs and babbles much of the day.
We adore her and we are delighted and impressed by how active she is now.

harder to get her right thumb into her mouth when she is in this position. But she finds a way to do it!

June 26: When Aurora wakes up, she is still not too happy about all the shots she got the previous afternoon
June 27: During the early afternoon, a severe thunderstorm swept through the area. Our power went out at 2pm,
so Kathy and Aurora took refuge at the public library for several hours. When Jon got home, we went for a walk to
try to identify where the power lines failed. This (former) oak tree was the culprit!
Further down the street, more tree branches took out another set of power lines. We watched the tree and NStar people work
to get rid of the fallen branches and debris and fix the lines.
Aurora seems totally unconcerned
about being next to downed power lines!
June 29: Aurora and Jon play "monkey see, monkey do"
June 30: Aurora now loves to look at the baby in the mirror (at first,
she was jealous of the other baby Mama or Daddy was holding). She's also getting better at tummy time.
